Love in Flight

As two members of the Air Force, it was only fitting that Devon + Patrick found a way to weave a little aviation-inspired fun into their wedding day. From the moment guests arrived for cocktail hour at Black Diamond Lodge, they were invited to become part of the celebration in a unique way: each person folded their own paper airplane and held onto it for the ceremony.

After a fresh blanket of snow left the meadow a little too muddy, Devon + Patrick embraced a last-minute change of plans and moved their ceremony inside the lodge's dining room. It couldn't have been a more perfect fit. Framed by the soaring windows, they exchanged vows with the snow-covered San Juan Mountains creating a breathtaking backdrop that felt just as magical as any outdoor ceremony.

Then came the moment no one saw coming. As the newlyweds shared their first kiss, family and friends launched their handmade paper airplanes toward the couple, filling the room with laughter, cheers, and dozens of little planes flying through the air. It was playful, completely unexpected, and so perfectly them.

Some of our favorite wedding moments are the ones that tell a couple's story in a way no one else could. This simple idea turned into one of the most memorable ceremony exits we've ever witnessed, proving that the best wedding traditions are often the ones you create yourself.
